Many organizations request that you get one of these before you start volunteering. It's nothing personal! Criminal Record checks are a routine precaution taken by the agency to assure the safety of their clients, staff, and other volunteers.

What the Criminal Record Search Certificate will tell you:
-If any record of conviction exists with the Winnipeg Police Service or with the National Repository/RCMP.  

Other Information...

-Agencies may offer to reimburse you for the cost of the search, however they are under no formal obligation to do so.

-If you live in a rural area, you may want to consult your local RCMP detachment. Some have funds in place to help pay for criminal record checks of potential community volunteers.
